Alexander Staffa

Server and Bartender

Alexander Staffa earned an Associate of Science degree from Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs, where his academic interest in the sciences began to take shape. Following this, he attended Metropolitan State University of Denver to continue his education and deepen his understanding of scientific studies. After living in Colorado for 29 years, he moved to Amesbury, Massachusetts, with a clear goal in mind—to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Recently, he applied to several universities across The Bay State, taking steps toward achieving this next stage in his education.

While exploring his academic options, he is living near Boston, Massachusetts. Originally from Louisville, Colorado, he now resides in a coastal area renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and vibrant tourism industry. Being surrounded by both locals and visitors from diverse backgrounds has strengthened his communication and interpersonal skills, offering meaningful opportunities for connection. This environment also provides a healthy balance as he stays engaged and active while pursuing his long-term educational goals.

A Love of Chemistry

His decision to focus on chemistry comes from a genuine fascination with how the world functions on a microscopic level. He has always been intrigued by atoms, molecules, and reactions—how these small interactions form the basis of everything around us. For him, chemistry represents more than just a subject of study; it is a way to understand life, technology, and the environment in a detailed and meaningful way.

He enjoys working in a laboratory setting where theory and practice come together. Experimenting, observing, and analyzing results provide him with opportunities to apply what he has learned in class to real-world scenarios. Whether it involves identifying unknown substances, synthesizing compounds, or exploring sustainable materials, he finds fulfillment in the process of discovery. Each experiment deepens his appreciation for precision, patience, and scientific reasoning.

He is naturally analytical and detail-oriented, traits that fit well within the discipline of chemistry. At the same time, he uses imagination to visualize reactions and processes that are not easily seen. This combination of logic and creativity enables him to think critically and devise innovative solutions to problems. His study of chemistry opens up many potential career paths, including pharmaceuticals, environmental science, forensics, or education. Each of these fields offers a chance to apply his curiosity and contribute to solutions that can improve lives and protect the planet.

A Passion for Skiing from an Early Age

Born in Louisville, Colorado, he was introduced to skiing at the young age of five. Growing up near some of the state’s most famous ski destinations—such as Copper Mountain, Keystone, Breckenridge, and Arapahoe Basin—he had regular opportunities to practice and refine his skills. Skiing quickly became a lifelong passion, providing both challenge and enjoyment.

During his time studying in Steamboat Springs, widely known as “Ski Town, USA,” he embraced skiing as an essential integral part of his life. Between 2013 and 2016, he managed to ski roughly 100 days each season while maintaining his academic workload. With 297 named trails spanning 2,965 acres, Steamboat Springs offered the ideal environment for improving his technique and developing endurance.

For him, skiing is more than a sport—it is a connection to nature and a way to experience peace and focus. The snow-covered mountains, crisp air, and quiet landscapes bring him a sense of clarity and freedom. Skiing has also helped him build strength, balance, and discipline, qualities that carry into his academic and personal life. It provided not only physical benefits but also a foundation of confidence and resilience. Time spent on the slopes with family and friends has given him lasting memories and a sense of community that continues to influence his outlook today.

Beyond the Slopes

His love for the outdoors extends to other activities such as dirt biking, hiking, and tubing. These hobbies allow him to stay active while exploring different terrains and natural environments. They also provide an outlet for adventure and reflection, helping him maintain balance between work, study, and recreation.

He especially enjoys visiting national parks throughout the United States. These trips enable him to experience the diverse landscapes that define the country, ranging from rugged mountains to tranquil rivers. Whether hiking through forests, riding across open trails, or floating along winding waterways, he values every opportunity to connect with nature. The experience of discovery in the outdoors mirrors his curiosity in science, reminding him that exploration—whether in the lab or in the wild—always leads to learning.

Other Interests

When not outdoors, he enjoys spending time with activities that challenge his creativity and problem-solving skills. He plays both video games and board games, with a particular fondness for Dungeons & Dragons. This game combines strategy, storytelling, and imagination, allowing him to think critically while collaborating with others.

Through Dungeons & Dragons, he develops teamwork and communication skills as players work together to solve challenges and navigate complex scenarios. The game’s mix of creativity and structure appeals to his analytical nature and parallels his interest in chemistry, where strategic thinking and experimentation play essential roles. It provides a way to relax while also exercising mental focus and social connection.
